Casino
A casino is a building or room where people can play various games of chance for money or other rewards. The precise origin of gambling is unknown, but it is widespread in most societies. Casinos are also known as gambling houses or gaming rooms. They often offer free spectacular entertainment and transportation, elegant living quarters, and other inducements to gamblers. Casinos usually collect a percentage of the players’ bets, which is referred to as the house edge or expected value. This gives the casino a virtual assurance of gross profit.
This film has a lot of the ingredients of a great story: a rich setting of the Mafia’s relationship with Las Vegas, an interesting protagonist in the form of Sam “Ace” Rothstein (Robert De Niro), and a whole host of fascinating themes, from the mob skimming millions out of casinos to the false bedrock that Ace built his marriage off of to Nicky’s complete scumbaggery (one of the best-built in a movie, IMHO). And it has Scorsese’s trademark energy and pacing throughout.
And the fact that it’s based on true events only adds to its interest. This is a movie that will appeal to fans of the Mafia and those who enjoy history and crime dramas. It’s not perfect; it does lag a little in the middle, and some of the characters aren’t as well developed as they could be. But it’s still a worthy addition to the cinematic canon.
